One out six men will get Prostate Cancer some time in his life - in 2008 over 220,000 cases were diagnosed - more cases than breast cancer! With the use of early screening (PSA testing) nine out of ten cases of Prostate Cancer are discovered while it is still in the early stages - giving men a much better chance of survival!
LONG ISLAND CRUIZIN FOR A CURE is an antique and classic car and motorcycle show to raise money for Prostate Cancer Research. In its third year (2008) the event raised $25,000 - with donations still coming in - that has been donated to SNCH Center for Prostate Health here on Long Island. The PSA screening done at the 2008 event resulted in five potential cases of Prostate Cancer... WE SAVED FIVE MEN'S LIVES IN 2007!
The 2009 event, run by a dedicated group of volunteers (some of whom are Prostate Cancer Survivors) promises to be bigger and better. The show is scheduled for Sunday September 13th, 2009, so please mark your calendars.
The 2009 show location will be the Capital One building located at 275 Route 110 - corner of Rte 110 and the Long Island Expressway in Melville - with easy access from anywhere on Long Island and the metro New York City area. » Get Map
None of the money collected goes to a car club, a promoter or for administrative overhead. All of the proceeds collected go to Prostate Cancer Research, testing and education here on Long Island.
Most men say "it won’t happen to me" or "I will do it next week". Next week could be too late. PSA testing is quick and painless and could save your life... I know because it saved my life! Look for any of us at the show wearing the blue “Survivors” shirt if you want to learn more.
Please look for the free PSA test on the show grounds and take a minute to have yourself tested - it is a simple, quick blood "draw". This test is not the complete answer but will indicate if there is the possibility of a problem.
Then go back out and enjoy the show!
