One of the most successful events that took place during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month was the Long Island Cruizin� for a Cure Car Show held in Merrick, L.I. A display of 130 show stopping cars, trucks and motorcycles excited the vehicle enthusiasts and their families. The rewarding aspect of the day for the volunteers, particularly the event planner, Sandy Kane, and the over 250 visitors, were the free prostate cancer PSA screening tests conducted by South Nassau Community Hospital personnel. The fundraising event was a financial success, and the proceeds of the special awareness day event have been donated to the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory for prostate cancer research. There were 63 PSA screenings conducted on site, and to date one was found elevated. The individual was contacted and is following-up on the finding with his physician. The Long Island Cruizin� for a Cure volunteers truly thank South Nassau Community Hospital and sponsors � Champion Motor Group and Bethpage Federal Credit Union and all who were part of making the day an overwhelming success.
